Q. Can AGPS (Assisted GPS) affect my true tracking results?

Yes it can because on some phones depending on service provider signal strength the AGPS will and can for short periods of time override the phones GPS positioning. And as a result you will see and experience erratic movement in your tracking. A solution to this could be for you to turn off your AGPS and only run the phone’s GPS. On some phones this may lead to more constant tracking results.

Q. I have a PDA without the Internet. How can I activate?

If your PDA cannot access the Internet then please email your device ID to technical@satski.com. You can find your device ID from the Satsports software, next to where you enter your activation code.

Q. What is my activation code for?

Your activation code will “unlock” your installed Satsports Software to convert it from the free demo to the full version of the software and unlock all the features. The activation process requires that your phone is connected to the Internet, either through GRPS/3G or Wi-Fi.

If you buy an application from the Satsports website, your activation code will be emailed to you. Please also check your junk email box for your activation code.

Q. How many Satski maps can I download onto my mobile phone?

This will depend on your mobile phone capacity but we recommend that you only have one Satski map on your phone at one time. The Satski PC application will allow you to store your Satski maps and reload them to your mobile phone should you return to the same ski resort.

Q. How can I increase my mobile phone battery life?

We highly recommend that you do the following to protect your mobile phone battery life:

  • Switch off your Wifi and Bluetooth functions
  • Make the screen switch off after 30 secs
  • Minimise frequency and duration of phone calls
  • Fully charge your mobile phone
Q. When I download a resort specific map, which is part of a larger ski area, will I get the other resort(s) as well?

In most cases, yes you will receive the connecting resorts with your download or maps for your GPS unit. This applies to the 3 Valleys, Espace Killy, Paradiski, Portes du Soleil, Arlberg, Whistler-Blackcomb, and Big Sky and Moonlight Basin.

Q. If I download a seasonal Satski map, can I transfer it to another phone?

Mobile phones running Windows Mobile, touch screen and Bluetooth but do not have a GPS, it is now possible to purchase any number of Bluetooth GPS devices made for mobile smart phones and PDA’s which will allow you to use the Satski application. These devices cost from around
$35, they are small, neat and very effective.

Satski is currently working on Apple iphone and Blackberry compatible applications. These are currently not available.

Q. What will my network charges be for using Satski abroad?

Satski has been designed to use minimal MB to keep your network charges low. We estimate that charges for GPRS data usage will be no more than $3 to $5 per day when abroad. We recommend that you check with your network provider, the charge for roaming GPRS data per megbyte. Satski uses 1/20th of a megabyte per day so you can work out your daily charges.

Q. I have purchased an activation code. How do I download Satski to my mobile phone?

To install the Satski software to your mobile phone please follow these steps:

Load Internet Explorer on you mobile smart phone and go to www.satski.com to land on our mobile friendly page
Select 'Download free Satski'

Yes it will work as the Satski software and the mobile phone’s GPS are independent from telephone signal

Q. How did I record an abnormally high speed?

Your speed is reliant on your phones GPS / GPRS. If your phone does not have a strong GPS, or AGPS, and signal is lost, the period between loss of GPS signal, will make the Satski app calculate in an abnormally high and unrealistic speed.

Q. How accurate is GPS?

GPS works best in an open space with a clear view of the sky. While most of the time on the slopes this is the case, there are occasions when the signal from the satellite gets reflected off a mountain when the user is in a deep valley. The GPS position is calculated by precisely measuring the time taken for the satellite signal to reach the receiver and any reflections increase the time artificially and can produce a position which is slightly "off". The same reflections can occur when in a lift as the signal reflects off the ground.

These reflections are quite rare and will usually be discarded if there are enough satellites in view but they do happen, especially when:

In a deep valley
On a lift
Soon after the device has been started and not "locked" on to all available satellites
The reflections usually last for up to 5 minutes depending on signal and equipment quality.

The reflections tend to effect only the live position and will occasionally increase the distance tracked by a factor of up to 5% over the course of a typical day. Because Satski uses NASA's altitude charts, an incorrect position will generate an incorrect altitude. The reflections do not tend to effect the recorded speed.

Q. Do you offer Satski corporate gifts or bulk buying orders for travel agents or group discounts?

Q. Does Satski work in cold temperatures?

Satski GPS System has been tested -20 deg C and works successfully. If you protect your Satski and place it in your jacket pocket temperature will never be an issue. Please note, the warmer the unit is kept, the better the battery life. For Mobile Phones, PDA’s and Smart Phones, please contact your mobile phone company for details on the operation of your mobile phone at cold temperatures.
